This position is for a research assistant, working under the supervision of Dr. Scott Debb from the NSU Psychology Department. The student selected for this position will assist with organizing research initiatives in the Cyberpsychology Lab. This position requires an on campus presence at least 50% of the time, and the other half of your time can be done virtually. Specific activities will be varied, but likely to include (but not limited to) some of the following: - Creating advertising/recruitment flyers for research where students will be asked to participate - Finding out which people/departments on campus are the point of contact for administrative tasks (eg, getting approval to post flyers around campus) - Preparing and proofreading documentation - Approaching students and faculty to promote open research studies in order to recruit interested students to participate in survey research - Reviewing videos and written documentation to learn how to set up and use various pieces of hardware/software in the Cyberpsychology research lab - Preferred, but not mandatory, is to be available for bi-weekly lab team meetings (currently every other Tuesday 1-2:30 pm) The ideal candidate does not need to be a seasoned researcher or know how to analyze complex statistics. You will be learning how lab operations function and helping with administrative tasks for the most part. Therefore, a strong interest in research is highly preferred, as is being a psychology major since you'll be working to help operations within the cyberpsychology lab. Please email me if you are interested in this position for the Fall 2025 semester (and potentially Spring 2026). Please include your resume with your email so I can get to know a little about you as well. cyberpsychology@nsu.edu or smdebb@nsu.edu I am looking to (virtually) interview people Friday 8/15 if possible.
Qualifications:
1. Preference given to a Psychology major (other related majors will be considered as well) 2. Some experience in psychology research methods preferred (otherwise, a strong interest in learning about psychology research) 3. Ability to communicate with students and faculty in person and online (e.g., email) 4. Ability to walk around campus as needed 5. Proficiency with email, virtual meetings (e.g., TEAMS, Zoom) and attention to detail in written correspondence 6. Proficiency to learn how to use new software/technology that you may not already be familiar with (eg, watching videos to learn how to use a software program, or reading documentation to help set up VR or eye tracking hardware/software in the lab) 7. Dependable, and ability to manage time effectively with varying amounts of supervision. Must be awarded work-study for the fall 2025 term.
